UPDATE: One killed, one hospitalized after crash near La Place

Update at 1 p.m.

LA PLACE, Ill. (WCIA) — One person was killed in the crash near La Place Wednesday morning, State Police said. Another person is in the hospital with injuries.

In an update, State Police officials provided more information about the crash at U.S. Route 36 and Illinois Route 32. It happened at 10:45 a.m. and involved two semi-trucks.

Officials said one of the trucks was traveling northbound on Route 32 and it pulled into the intersection. The other truck was driving westbound on Route 36 and it struck the trailer of the northbound semi.

The driver of the westbound semi was transported to an area hospital, where officials said they were pronounced dead. The driver of the northbound semi was also taken to the hospital with injuries.

State Police did not provide the condition of the injured driver.

The intersection of Route 36 and 32 is still closed as of 1 p.m.


LA PLACE, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois State Police is actively responding to a crash in Piatt County Wednesday afternoon near La Place with a road closure expected to last through the afternoon.

The crash happened at the intersection of U.S. Route 36 and Illinois Route 32. In a traffic advisory sent out at 12:21 p.m., ISP Master Sergeant Adam Traxler said that two commercial vehicles were involved, but he did not say how the crash happened.

The intersection is expected to be closed for the next three to four hours as first responders clear the scene of the wreckage. Traxler said drivers in the area should use caution and seek an alternate route to get to their destinations.

WCIA reached out ot ISP for more details on the crash but did not immediately hear back.
