A tragic incident unfolded in Berkeley County, South Carolina, when a young man’s life was cut short during a Saturday night shooting at a convenience store in Summerville. The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the victim was 20-year-old Kymeek T. Traylor, a clerk at the store.

The shooting took place at Myers Market, located in the 500 block of Myers Road, shortly after 9:30 p.m. on November 15. Authorities were alerted to the situation when the store owner reported witnessing an armed robbery in progress via his surveillance cameras, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies swiftly responded to the scene, where they discovered Traylor deceased inside the establishment. The loss of this young life during what should have been a routine work shift serves as a stark reminder of the perils faced by those working in retail environments.

The investigation continues as the community grapples with the senseless loss of a young man known for his role as a diligent store clerk. This incident underscores the importance of safety measures and vigilant law enforcement to protect both workers and patrons in such vulnerable settings.

Traylor was a clerk at the store.

Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis told News 2 a subject was arrested Sunday evening in connection with the shooting. That person has been identified as 18-year-old Harrison Charles Townsend of Nexton.

“This was a heinous and senseless act of violence. The victim was completely compliant during the robbery,” said Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis in a statement Monday. “The suspect showed a shocking disregard for human life, and this community will not tolerate such brutality. I am proud of the relentless work by our detectives  to identify and arrest this individual so quickly.”

Berkeley County EMS, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, and Pine Ridge Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
