Man arrested in Beaufort mobile home park shooting, officials say

BEAUFORT, S.C. — A man from St. Helena Island has been taken into custody on murder charges related to a shooting incident that occurred in Beaufort in September 2025, which resulted in the death of a 20-year-old.

Tyre Joe Atkins, aged 21, was apprehended by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. He faces several charges, including murder, attempted murder, being a felon in possession of a weapon, using a weapon during a violent crime, and aggravated breach of peace.

The charges against Atkins are connected to the fatal shooting of Ty Haskell Jenkins IV, also a resident of St. Helena Island. Jenkins was shot on September 10, 2025, at the Independence Mobile Home Park, according to official reports.

As the investigation continues, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is seeking further information. They urge anyone with details to reach out to the lead investigator, Master Sergeant Duncan, at 843-255-3418.

The Sheriff’s Office also reminds the community to report any suspicious or criminal activities by calling their non-emergency dispatch line at 843-524-2777.
