PALM BAY, Fla. – A Gainesville man was arrested after a high-speed chase on I-95 ended in a crash and a slew of charges in Brevard County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, around 5:30 p.m. Monday, a trooper clocked a gray Kia SUV going 96 mph traveling north near mile marker 170.
When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver accelerated and fled, weaving through traffic at speeds exceeding 100 mph and using both shoulders of the highway. The chase continued onto State Road 514 (Malabar Road), where the vehicle collided with a Tesla Model 3 in the front driver’s side quarter panel after failing to complete a turn, the report states.

The suspect then returned to I-95 northbound and was forced off the road after a PIT maneuver. The vehicle crashed into a fence after driving into a wooded area before the driver fled on foot, troopers said.
After law enforcement agencies — including Brevard County deputies, West Melbourne police, and Palm Bay police — established a perimeter, 24-year-old Deonte Jordan was located and taken into custody at a Winn-Dixie parking lot in Palm Bay.
Officers later found two loaded firearms inside Jordan’s vehicle — a Taurus 9mm handgun and a Ruger .22 caliber rifle — both within the driver’s reach. Jordan, a convicted felon on felony probation with 10 prior felony convictions, was driving on a suspended license, the report states.
Jordan was booked into the Brevard County Jail with no bond.
He faces multiple charges including aggravated fleeing and eluding with injury or damage, fleeing and eluding with lights and sirens active, fleeing at high speed, reckless driving with property damage, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, driving while license suspended and violation of probation.
According to the FHP, the Tesla driver, a 28-year-old female from Palm Bay, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Three passengers in the vehicle were not injured.
