Britney Spears Reportedly Taken into Custody in California, According to Sheriff’s Records

According to records from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Britney Spears found herself in legal trouble on Wednesday night in Ventura County, California.

The well-known singer was taken into custody on the evening of March 4, with the arrest occurring at 9:28 p.m. She was officially booked in the early hours of March 5, at 3:02 a.m., and subsequently released a few hours later at 6:07 a.m.

(KTLA) – Britney Spears was arrested in Ventura County, California, on Wednesday night, records from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office show.

The pop star was arrested on March 4 at 9:28 p.m. and booked at 3:02 a.m. on March 5. She was released hours later at 6:07 a.m.

The records did not list a reason for Spears’ arrest. TMZ and People, both citing law enforcement sources, reported that the “Gimme More” singer was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI, but that has yet to be publicly confirmed by officials.

A representative for Spears, in a statement obtained by People, called the reason for her arrest “an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.”

“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” the representative said. “Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”

“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being,” the statement continued.

Spears was given a date to appear in court on May 4, the Associated Press reported.
