Britt Road in Mount Dora Set to Reopen After Nearly Two Years of Closures

New truck restrictions, drainage upgrades aim to protect rebuilt Lake County roadway

MOUNT DORA, Fla. – Britt Road in Mount Dora is set to reopen Friday, ending nearly two years of detours for local drivers.

The route will return as a two-lane roadway after Hurricane Milton destroyed a significant section in October 2024. The damage forced a prolonged closure and created daily traffic challenges for residents and other motorists who depend on Britt Road.

Construction finally got underway in August 2026. In addition to reconstructing the roadway, crews added drainage improvements and other safety features intended to reduce the risk of similar damage in the future.

The Lake County Commission has also approved a resolution prohibiting trucks weighing more than 10 tons from using Britt Road between Wolf Branch Road and State Road 44.

County officials said the roadway was not designed for heavy truck traffic. Limiting large vehicles is expected to help protect the newly rebuilt road, although delivery trucks, garbage collection vehicles and agricultural vehicles are exempt from the restriction.
