STATESBORO, Ga. () — Bulloch County school leaders are seeking input from parents to improve the learning environment for their students.

“We want to hear from parents, whether that’s positive things about their school or they have feedback for school improvement,” said Hayley Greene, public relations director for Bulloch County Schools.

The annual climate survey allows parents to share their thoughts on various aspects of their child’s school, from discipline and school nutrition to transportation and curriculum.

“When you talk about the climate of a school, that’s what the learning environment is like,” Greene said. “So how a school’s climate is can affect learning, so that’s something we want to measure and get feedback from parents.”

The results of these surveys play a significant role in determining each school’s state report card in the fall, which measures climate as well as college and career readiness.

“It helps us look at discipline, school nutrition, transportation, class sizes, curriculum—every aspect of a school’s environment,” said Greene. “It helps us look at and see what parents are thinking about the learning environment.”

Bulloch County Schools typically see a 30% response rate from parents, but this year, they’re aiming to reach 50%. Similar surveys are also distributed to staff and students.

“The responses that we get back really do help us with our school improvement efforts,” Greene said. “It helps us see what we need to work on and what we’re doing well.”

Parents might be asked questions such as whether they feel acknowledged or involved in the school and if they feel safe sending their child there.

The survey is available for schools across the state through March. Greene said that parents can find the link to each school’s survey on the district’s website.
