SAVANNAH, Ga. — As the curtain falls on their football season, the Savannah State Tigers aim to achieve a balanced 5-5 record with their final game on Saturday.
With true freshman quarterback Rashawn Truell unavailable, the team will rely on redshirt junior Christian Burks, who has already stepped into the starting role four times this season.
Head Coach Aaron Kelton is determined to honor his senior players by securing a victory in the season finale. The roster includes eight graduate students and 23 seniors, marking the end of an era for many.
The occasion holds sentimental value for Coach Kelton, who was instrumental in recruiting a significant portion of these athletes.
“Reflecting on their journey from their first day at camp to now is quite moving,” Kelton remarked. “I remember them being so new and inexperienced. Now, they confidently guide the team and even advise me on strategies. It’s truly rewarding.”
The game between Benedictine and Savannah State kicks off Nov. 8 at Wright Stadium at 8 p.m.
