MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WFLA) — The bus driver accused of fatally shooting two passengers on a Miami-Dade Transit bus last week has resigned, according to a report from NBC affiliate WTVJ.
Following the March 30 incident, county officials allegedly began the termination process for the driver, who has yet to be publicly identified.
Last Monday, officials released the identity of the victims— 44-year-old Lonnie Stephenwade Harley and 46-year-old Ejaash Bail Carter, who were shot to death following a verbal argument.
The victims were airlifted to a local hospital, where they both died from their injuries.
“At this time, this is a sensitive case requiring careful consideration. We are working closely with the SAO and will provide updates as they become available,” police said on April 2.
WTVJ reported that the case remains under investigation by Miami Gardens police and the State Attorney’s Office. It is unclear if or what charges the driver may face.
