BVPD: Meth, 76 pills seized during welfare check

BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — Various drugs, including meth and pills, were seized by police during a welfare check in Bristol, Virginia on Tuesday.

According to a news release from the Bristol, Virginia Police Department (BVPD), officers responded to a home on Catherine Street for a welfare check.

“Upon arriving, officers were allowed to enter the residence,” the BVPD stated. “As they were leaving, they overheard a resident yelling at another person about the officers’ presence, stating she had ‘two ounces of drugs’ in the house.”

Two ounces of methamphetamine, Schedule IV pills, 76 unidentified pills and various drug paraphernalia were reportedly found during a search of the home.

Andrea Gross, 36, of Bristol, Virginia and Amanda Artusi, 32, of Glade Spring, were arrested and charged with the following:

  • Gross
    • Possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I or II drug
    • Possession of a Schedule IV substance
  • Artusi
    • Possession of a Schedule I or II drug

As of Thursday, Gross is being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond. Artusi was released on an unsecured bond, according to the BVPD.
