PALM BAY, Fla. – A city councilman is once again under fire for social media comments directed toward minorities.

Councilman Chandler Langevin wrote on X.com about people who are from India, accusing those living in the country of exploiting the United States. Fellow Councilman Kenny Johnson is now asking Langevin to step down or face being suspended by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

There’s not a single Indian that cares about the United States.

They are here to exploit us financially and enrich India and Indians.

The post reads, “There’s not a single Indian that cares about the United States. They are here to exploit us financially and enrich India and Indians. America for Americans.”

In response, Palm Bay Mayor Rob Medina released an open letter to the city on Monday, which had the support of three other councilmen.

Medina wrote that everyone is entitled to their own views, but words that “demean or devalue others have no place in the Palm Bay we aspire to be.”

“Like the United States of America, Palm Bay has always drawn its strength from the diversity of its people,” Medina wrote. “Our community is built on many cultures, backgrounds, and life stories, and it is this richness that makes our city strong and vibrant.”

Langevin responded on X that he wholeheartedly disagreed with the letter, saying he knew Americans in Palm Bay who were struggling because they were priced out of the job market by immigrants.

“Diversity is not our strength and no conservative would ever say that. Our strength comes from rugged Americanism and the Christian values our Founding Fathers developed in forming this Republic,” Langevin wrote. “America is not an economic zone, but for too long both illegal and legal mass migration from every corner of the third world has led people to believe that they can come here, milk us dry, and invite more to do the same.”

Langevin’s posts are the latest comments that have stoked anger and concern from some in the community.

In February, Langevin said he wouldn’t apologize for what he wrote about Muslims on X.

“The ideology of Islam, particularly the political component, does not belong in the United States,” he said during a council meeting.

Langevin also angered people after the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Langevin organized what he called a, “March for Charlie Kirk and all victims of left-wing evil.”

He said any criticism of the event’s name was wrong.

Councilman Johnson said those in elected office are supposed to stand for all of the city’s population.

On Thursday night, Johnson will ask the council to vote on sending a letter to the governor calling for Langevin’s suspension.

“We represent over 140,000 people in the city of Palm Bay that come from all walks of life,” Johnson said. “When you come at the Muslim community, or the Indian community, or say left-wing evil, these are people conduct business in the city of Palm Bay. What if all of them just decided at the same time, like the bus boycotts, that they’re going to stop business in Palm Bay? It’s something that needs to be addressed.”

Langevin commented on Johnson’s suspension call on X, saying he stood by his comments.

“I can be suspended today after 10 months in office and still have accomplished more for the city than most councilmen will in 8 years,” he wrote.

It’s official:

The city was planning on talking about this on Tuesday night, but that meeting was canceled because not enough council members planned on attending.

Palm Bay Community Correspondent James Sparvero asked Langevin for comment on Johnson’s motion, but the councilman didn’t respond Tuesday.
