SAVANNAH, Ga. — As evening descends, the recent storms are tapering off, ushering in a continuation of warm weather as we head into the new week.

The day began with morning clouds and patches of fog, which eventually cleared to reveal yet another warm Sunday. Temperatures soared into the 80s across much of the region before storm systems began to emerge.

While some showers initially made their way into the inland areas of the Coastal Empire, the most significant weather events arose along the I-95 corridor during the afternoon hours.

This weather activity resulted in a rapid downpour, delivering one to two inches of rain to parts of Chatham County, leading to instances of street flooding in Savannah.

As the evening progresses, there will be intervals of dry weather; however, sporadic showers remain possible until around 2 a.m.

Watch for patchy fog Monday morning, but once skies clear out, it will be a beautiful day. Winds out of the west to southwest will allow for plenty of warming with highs in the mid-80s for much of the area.

Tuesday will be even warmer, with highs reaching the mid and upper 80s. There will be a chance for showers or storms due to a lingering disturbance moving around the edge of broad high pressure.

Changes arrive for the middle to end of the week as a cross-country storm system makes its way into the Southeast.

Wednesday will be another very warm day with the chance of pop-up showers or a storm.

The system and trailing cold front makes its way into the area late Wednesday into early Thursday. Showers and storms will move through the entire Coastal Empire and Lowcountry by mid to late day Thursday.

More clarity on the potential for severe weather will come over the next couple of days, but with the strength of the front and dynamics conducive to thunderstorms, it’s certainly in play.

In the wake of the cold front, much cooler temperatures arrive with chilly mornings and seasonable afternoons.
