SAVANNAH, Ga. — Wednesday brought more of the delightful weather Savannah residents have been enjoying, with clear skies and warm temperatures gracing the afternoon.

Most areas experienced highs ranging from the upper 70s to the lower 80s, following a crisp morning that began in the 40s and 50s.

A high-pressure system settled over the Southeast is set to maintain this sunny and warm trend over the coming afternoons.

As we look ahead to Thursday and Friday, expect chilly starts with morning temperatures dipping into the mid-40s to lower 50s. However, these cool beginnings will give way to warmer conditions throughout the day, thanks to plentiful sunshine and exceptionally dry air.

Despite the air temperatures reaching the upper 70s and lower 80s, the low humidity will ensure a comfortable feeling atmosphere.

The weekend will remain partly to mostly sunny. However, humidity levels will begin to rise ahead of the next system that will bring some showers early next week. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will be in the mid to upper 70s.

Monday through Wednesday will feature scattered showers along with cooler afternoon temperatures. Highs will top out in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

The National Hurricane Center has been monitoring Tropical Storm Melissa in the Caribbean Sea. It has become more organized over the past day or so. Sustained wind as of 8 p.m. EDT are at 50 mph with higher gusts.

Melissa is forecast to become stronger over the next several days. It is possible that Melissa becomes a major hurricane over the weekend as it will be located just south of Jamacia.

Long-range guidance indicates that Melissa may eventually move northward across the Greater Antilles and into the western Atlantic. Melissa does not currently pose a threat to the U.S.
