STATESBORO, Ga. () — The football teams of Calvary Day and Bulloch Academy earned wins on Aug. 16 at Paulson Stadium in the 14th playing of the Erk Russell Classic.

In the first game, Jason Cameron made his head coaching debut with Calvary Day. The Cavaliers lead Beach, 37-0, at the end of the first half, which ended up being the final score.

The Cavaliers have a week off before they host Oceanside Colligiate. Last year, Oceanside defeated Calvary Day, 16-15, in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

In the nightcap, Bulloch Academy outlasted Portal, 49-20. This is a big win for the defending GIAA state champions over a GHSA School. Bulloch Academy also won last year’s matchup, 19-18.

Bulloch Academy’s ball-control offense significantly shortened the game. As an example, their first drive of the ball ate 6:15 off the clock.

Bulloch Academy will look to improve to 2-0 with a win next week at home against Claxton.
