SAVANNAH, Ga. () — It’s only mid-September, but Friday night’s game between Calvary Day and Jenkins might decide the region championship.

Both teams are perfect in region play at 3-0. Calvary Day comes in on the heels of a 49-0 win over Windsor Forest on Sept. 12.

Twice this season, Calvary Day faced serious challenges. Back on Sept. 5, they came from behind to defeat Southeast Bulloch on the road. Then the week prior, they were in a shootout with Oceanside Collegiate.

The offense has been impressive. They are second in points per contest at just over 43. Defensively, they are third in the region at just over 17 points a game.

“A football is a marathon,” head Coach Jason Cameron said. “Our approach to the thing is that every single night is the region championship. “Our approach to the thing is that God does not promise you the next rep. We’ve had two kids lose seasons to injuries. So we really stay in the moment and we focus one week at a time and we’re hoping if this is the region championship, I hope we win.”

“They say pressure makes diamonds,” Calvary Day junior linebacker Kenneth Baker said. “I just feel like we’re just going to step up to the plate and just be us. [Jenkins] is really talented team, really good team. But we’re just focusing on ourselves and being the Calvary Day that we need to be.”

The game between Calvary Day and Jenkins is Game of the Week. You can watch it at 7:30 on the CW. The game will be played at Memorial Stadium.
