CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The University of Illinois Police Department is investigating an incident where someone entered a dorm room where two girls were sleeping without permission early Friday morning.

Officials issued a Campus Safety Notice on Friday to explain what happened.

The incident happened at Bousfield Hall, 1214 South First Street, around 4:30 a.m. There were three students involved: an unidentified male, the student who filed the report and her roommate.

The reporting student said the male entered her room while she and her roommate were asleep and touched the roommate’s face. The roommate woke up and confronted the intruder, who left the room.

Officials said their notice is not necessarily an indication of increasing crime or a new pattern of crime. They simply wanted to issue information that could help others prevent similar crimes and identify the intruder. Tips they offered to students include locking room doors, securing possessions and not allowing strangers to follow them into dorm halls.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the UIPD at 217-333-1216 or Champaign County Crime Stoppers at 217-373-8477.
