In a disturbing revelation from Carter County, Tennessee, a man from Stoney Creek has been taken into custody following allegations of possessing child sexual abuse materials. This arrest comes after a meticulous investigation led by local authorities.
The Carter County Sheriff’s Office reported that 21-year-old Jay Ruiz was apprehended on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor. This development unfolded after law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence, bringing the investigation to a critical juncture.
The probe was initiated on January 12, sparked by a crucial cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. According to the sheriff’s office, the tip-off revealed that child pornography had been uploaded to a social media platform, accompanied by specific details such as the date, time, and username associated with the upload.
Upon evaluating the information, investigators pinpointed Ruiz as the individual behind the uploads. Acting on this information, officers conducted a search of his home on Thursday morning to gather further evidence.
In a bid to uncover any hidden electronic storage devices, the CCSO enlisted the help of K9 Daisey, a specialized dog trained for this purpose. The operation proved fruitful as several electronic storage devices were discovered, all of which have been sent for further forensic analysis to build the case against Ruiz.
Ruiz was taken into custody and remains in the Carter County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond as of Thursday afternoon.
The CCSO stated additional charges are pending as the investigation remains ongoing.
“I am proud of the work of my officers in diligently pursuing investigations into those who target the most vulnerable in our community, our children, and to hold those who target children accountable for their actions by prosecuting them to the fullest extent of the law,” Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley said in a statement. “This investigation also demonstrates what an important asset K9 Daisey is for our agency. She assisted our investigators in recovering important evidence, which will aid in the investigation and prosecution of this case.”
