CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Bristol woman was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly evading police in Carter County.

According to a news release from the Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), deputies saw a black SUV fail to maintain its lane of travel in the Coal Chute Road area just after 3 p.m.

A deputy attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and the driver, identified as Tiffany Neal, 37, reportedly failed to stop.

“According to the deputy, the vehicle was traveling at a speed of approximately 15-20 miles per hour while driving on Coal Chute Road, and passed several side roads and a church parking lot where the driver could have safely stopped,” the CCSO stated. “The vehicle nearly struck several passing vehicles head-on and ran off the roadway multiple times, according to the deputy.”

A second deputy arrived and the two were able to box in the SUV. Neal then stopped the vehicle.

“After the vehicle was stopped, officers approached the vehicle and observed [Neal] who appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” the release stated. “According to the deputy, [Neal] was very lethargic and appeared to be falling in and out of consciousness.”

Neal was removed from the vehicle and the vehicle rolled forward due to not being in park. The vehicle then hit one of the patrol vehicles.

Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) investigated the crash, and Neal was charged with driving under the influence.

After being evaluated at a local hospital, Neal was taken into custody.

In addition to being charged by THP, Neal also faces charges from the CCSO for evading arrest and driving on roadways laned for traffic.

As of Thursday, Neal is being held on a $5,750 bond at the Carter County Detention Center.
