CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Enthusiasts of the sitcom “Seinfeld” are gearing up to celebrate an unconventional holiday on December 23: Festivus.

Once a fictional concept, Festivus has evolved into an enduring pop culture phenomenon.

First introduced in a 1997 episode of “Seinfeld” titled “The Strike,” the holiday was conceived as a tongue-in-cheek response to the commercialism and high expectations often associated with traditional festivities.
