BLUFFTON, S.C. () — Second Helpings, a nonprofit food rescue organization, is bringing back its tourist food rescue program, ‘Post-Vacation Food Donation,’ for the third year.

Beginning May 24, specially marked donation bins will be placed at convenient places around Hilton Head Island, making it simple for tourists and locals to drop off unopened, nonperishable groceries at any time.

The goal is to collect food that Second Helpings will deliver to one of the seven food pantries and soup kitchens that serve those who are food insecure on Hilton Head Island.

Amy Colin, Second Helpings Executive Director, said “We’re excited about the expansion of the food drop-off bins to more locations around the Island. With the help of Coligny Plaza and Palmetto Dunes, we realized last year that the bins were a convenient way for tourists to donate food. And, thanks to rental management companies and others in the community who helped us get the word out, the program is expanding just as the need for food is growing. Some 5,000 people on Hilton Head Island are struggling with hunger.”

The bins will replace the Saturday morning food collections from previous years.
