In the wake of a Minneapolis driver being fatally shot by ICE officers, the resulting outrage has ignited a wave of protests across the nation. Even in Central Florida, communities have risen to demand justice.

In Casselberry, demonstrators gathered along Triplet Lake Drive and U.S. 17-92, calling for accountability from the officers involved in the death of Renee Good. Their voices echoed a collective plea for change, resonating with similar protests occurring nationwide.

On Saturday morning, Orlando saw a surge of protesters near I-4, joining the hundreds of demonstrations from coast to coast in response to this tragic incident. The widespread activism highlights the national scale of the outcry.

Florida lawmakers have also weighed in on the incident, reacting to the news of the ICE agent’s actions in Minneapolis.

Makayla Moseby, a resident of Seminole County, expressed a sentiment shared by many: “I hope that this is a sign that it is not us versus us; together it’s us versus them.” Her words capture the unity and shared purpose that have brought so many together in this critical moment.

Many protesters are calling for the ICE officer who shot and killed Good to be held accountable.

“He needs to be arrested and tried for his crimes. He had no reason to think he was in any harm,” said Darryl Malcolm, also a Seminole County resident.

Good was shot in the head Wednesday morning in south Minneapolis during a federal ICE operation.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the officers acted in self-defense.

“It puts our officers’ lives in jeopardy, but they are there enforcing our laws and protecting public safety when it comes to federal law,” Noem said.

Noem claimed Good attempted to run officers over with her vehicle and has called the incident an act of “domestic terrorism.”

Other top officials also weighed in, including Vice President JD Vance, who said, “She was trying to run this guy over with her car. He shot — he defended himself.”

Demonstrators said they don’t believe that account and argue the narrative is being distorted, saying leaders are “purposely making it difficult to keep America from being what it is.”

They are also calling for the Trump administration to roll back its crackdown on immigration.

More demonstrations are expected in Central Florida Sunday, including in Orlando and Cocoa Beach, as protesters continue to react to the shooting in Minneapolis.
