CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — It has been quite the summer offseason for Maroons head coach John Staab.

Shortly after wrapping up his 23rd season at Central, two of Staab’s former players were chosen in the MLB Draft. Jake Munroe, a 2023 Central grad, was picked in the fourth round by the Angels and Joel Sarver, a 2020 grad, was picked in the 17th by the Diamondbacks.

“It says more about them,” said Staab. “Those guys put in the work for sure, on the field and off. You know, they went about it year long geting ready and training and those type of things and took advantage of their opportunities when they got them. So, you know, to play a small part in their success, I mean, certainly proud of that. But just more excited for them in their future for sure.”

Munroe and Sarver join Rockies pitcher Tanner Gordon in representing the Maroons with MLB organizations.
