As temperatures in Central Illinois plummet with wind chills diving well below freezing, communities are taking action by providing warming shelters for those in need.
In Hoopeston, the mayor announced that City Hall will serve as an unmanned warming center throughout the weekend, offering a safe haven from the biting cold. Meanwhile, at a Danville City Council meeting on Tuesday, officials decided against opening a city-sponsored emergency warming shelter, citing low utilization in previous years.
Despite this, residents in the city and surrounding county still have access to several warming options. One such resource is The Dwelling Place, which welcomes individuals on Mondays and Fridays during daytime hours.
