In a show of unity and resilience, law enforcement agencies across Central Illinois are rallying around a sheriff’s deputy who was shot on Saturday night in Peoria. Authorities have confirmed that the deputy, who underwent surgery, is expected to recover fully.
“In our line of work, we are a tight-knit community. When one of us is hurt, we all feel it, and we do whatever we can to support each other,” expressed DeWitt County Sheriff Mike Walker. His words echo the sense of camaraderie that binds law enforcement officers throughout the region.
The shooting incident unfolded just before 10 p.m. in the southern part of Peoria. Sheriff Walker emphasized that an assault on a single deputy resonates with the entire law enforcement fraternity. With only 102 sheriffs across the state, the connection among their offices is akin to a brotherhood.
