CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – Champaign Central graduate Tanner Gordon is seemingly finding a groove in the big leagues.
The former Maroon threw six scoreless innings on Thursday to help the Rockies secure their first shutout win since May of 2024.
Gordon’s line, against the Cardinals, was 6 innings pitched, four hits, three walks and three strikeouts. The performance was good enough to pick up his second win on the year, improving to 2-2 on the 2025 campaign with a 4.24 ERA.
“Happy for Tanner and his continued success in the big leagues,” Longtime Central baseball coach John Staab said earlier in the week. “And you talk about a grind – There’s another guy that’s paid his dues. He’s been in two organizations now and up and down and just continues to work. Every opportunity he gets I’m sure he’s he’s going to try to take full advantage of it, and we’ll be rooting for him for sure.”
Gordon, a 2016 Central grad, was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the sixth round in 2019 after collegiate stops with John A. Logan and Indiana.
The former Hoosier was traded to the Rockies organization in 2023.
He made eight MLB appearances in 2024, all starts. He has bounced back and forth between The Show and AAA again in 2025, making four starts in the big leagues thus far.
