CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Just a couple of days after The Park Bar and Grill in Champaign closed for safety concerns, the bar is back open — with certain changes in place.

Last week, WCIA reported that city officials ordered The Park Bar and Grill to close on May 3 because the business “repeatedly” failed to report disorderly conduct and/or ordinance violations on their property.

On May 8, The Park Bar and Grill announced on Facebook that following “productive discussions” with Champaign, The Park Bar would be allowed to resume regular operations. But, certain changes will be in place, to ensure everyone’s safety. This includes:

  • Reporting all fights to police, regardless of severity
  • Anyone involved in a fight will be permanently banned
  • Online threats or attempts to instigate violence (including on social media) will result in being denied entry

“Our team and ownership have worked tirelessly to maintain a safe, welcoming space for everyone. If this respect is not returned by the community members we will have no choice but to consider permanently closing our doors. This is our final effort to preserve The Park Bar as a positive and safe environment for all,” The Park Bar wrote on Facebook. “We sincerely hope everyone will support these efforts and help ensure that The Park Bar remains a place for fun, community, and good memories.”

WCIA reached out to city officials for more information but did not immediately receive a response back.
