CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign County Crime Stoppers is looking for help from the public in finding the people who broke into a car, stole the victim’s credit/debit cards and then tried to use them at a store.
Officials stated that these crimes occurred on Aug. 18. Between 9:00 and 11:30 a.m., someone broke into a car parked in Lot F31 on the University of Illinois campus, located near St. Mary’s Road and Lincoln Avenue in Urbana. After stealing the victim’s credit/debit cards out of the car, the burglar(s) then went to Champaign’s Target on Prospect Avenue.
They tried to use the cards to make $1,450 worth of purchases, officials said.
Target’s security cameras recorded the two suspects as they were walking out of the store. They were described as:
- A female, White or Hispanic, with long black hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a white hat, black sunglasses, a white skirt, and a black tank top. She was also carrying a mini backpack with a Louis Vuitton monogram
- A male, White or Hispanic, with a stubble beard. He was wearing a black and white hat, a gray Adidas T-shirt, gray athletic shorts and a black fanny pack.

Anyone with information on this crime or who the suspects are is asked to submit their knowledge to Champaign County Crime Stoppers in a tip. Tips can be submitted by calling 217-373-8477, visiting Crime Stoppers’ website or using the P3 Tips app.
Crime Stoppers will reward tipsters with up to $1,000 if the information they provide leads to an arrest in this case.
