CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Seven people were recently arrested on drug and gun charges in Champaign County thanks to tips the public submitted to Crime Stoppers.

Crime Stoppers announced the arrests in a press release on Thursday. The names and their charges were not revealed, but organization officials said that in addition to the arrests, police also seized illegally possessed weapons and “deadly and dangerous” narcotics.

The weapons included four handguns and three assault rifles, and the drugs included fentanyl, cocaine and ecstasy. Crime Stoppers officials said police also seized the equipment used to make and package drugs.

The tips that led to these arrests and seizures came from the public, and at the organization’s January meeting, the Board of Directors approved $8,600 in cash rewards to go to the tipsters.

“We’re extremely proud of these results and thank local law enforcement for acting on these anonymous tips and bringing these suspects into custody,” President John Hecker said in the release. “Getting this large volume of dangerous narcotics and illegal weapons off the streets is proof that Crime Stoppers works.”
