In Champaign County, Illinois, law enforcement is delving into a puzzling case involving a stolen vehicle that was both crashed and set ablaze last week. The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has turned to the community for assistance, urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers to help piece together the details of this incident.

The incident took place on December 2 on Capitol Drive, a quiet residential area nestled just south of the city limits of Champaign, accessible via Mattis Avenue. According to an official news release, this is where the dramatic sequence of events unfolded.

Upon arrival at the scene, sheriff’s deputies learned from witnesses that an individual had initially fled the area in a vehicle, only to return shortly thereafter. It was then that the suspect ignited the wrecked car before making a hasty departure once more. The vehicle, it was later discovered, had been reported stolen.
