HOMER, Ill. (WCIA) — Last week, a wave of viruses led to over half the students at a Central Illinois school staying home. Following extensive cleaning efforts, the school is now on the mend.

Attendance at Heritage Elementary and Junior High School saw an uptick on Monday, with only 22% of students absent, marking a positive shift.

Dr. Kimberly Norton, superintendent of Heritage CUSD #8, noted that attendance rates typically exceed 95% at these schools. However, the cold and flu season has recently taken its toll.
