The Urbana Police Department is actively seeking assistance from the public, via Crime Stoppers, to crack a case involving an armed robbery and shooting incident that transpired in December.
This unsettling event unfolded at the Circle K gas station located at 507 West University Avenue. On Christmas Eve, around 10:44 p.m., a male suspect entered the convenience store, brandishing a black and silver handgun. He demanded that the store employee open the cash register.
According to Crime Stoppers, the suspect assaulted and shot the employee multiple times during the ordeal. Before fleeing, he also stole personal belongings from the employee. The suspect made his getaway in a white pickup truck, which he had stolen earlier from the 1900 block of North Cunningham Avenue in Urbana. Although the vehicle was later found by officers, the suspect remains at large. Fortunately, the Circle K employee was treated for injuries and has since been discharged from the hospital.
