CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) –A high school sports team in Champaign has blown past its goal to raise money for a good cause.

This is the fourth year the Centennial archery team has collected donations for St. Jude’s Children’s hospital. They hosted a tournament over the weekend that got their families involved.

Moms, dads, guardians and athletes all took turns trying to get a bullseye. It’s a partnership between the hospital and the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) and it’s personal for Centennial’s team.

“Because it’s the national philanthropy, we participate in it. Not only because of the opportunity to do the virtual tournament and see how we stack up against other teams in the nation with our scores, but also to fundraise for a cause. And since we have an individual on our team who is a St Jude survivor, it’s even more near and dear to our heart,” Assistant Coach Heather Miller said.

Their goal was $5,000 and they’ve already at $8,000. The team will be collecting donations until the end of March. If you would like to donate, click here. To learn more about the Centennial archery team’s fundraising efforts for St. Jude’s, visit their Facebook page.
