Local committee brings 'age-friendly' fun to Champaign-Urbana

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) – A local committee is partnering with community organizations to promote healthy aging in Champaign County. 

Age-Friendly Champaign-Urbana is hosting a series of activities perfect for adults over 50 in honor of Active Aging Week from Oct. 6-12. Janet Soesbe, Community Program Manager at the Urbana Park District and steering committee member, talked about the importance of these events.

“We wanted to highlight and showcase all of the enriching and fun, really cool things that [Age-Friendly Champaign-Urbana] are all doing for people 50 and up,” Soesbe said. “This is a really special community to retire in and there’s a lot going on.”

There will be multiple health and wellness activities to participate in, such as yoga, walking groups, pickleball and more. Health workshops on Tinnitus and Alzheimer’s disease will also be available.
