Champaign's 25th Annual Parade of Lights Faces Possible Postponement: Organizers Announce Potential Delay

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — As winter weather looms this weekend, Champaign’s beloved holiday tradition may face a delay. The city’s annual Parade of Lights, a highlight for many, could be rescheduled due to the approaching conditions.

The Champaign Center Partnership is diligently monitoring the forecast to make an informed decision about whether the parade will proceed as planned this Saturday. Originally slated for November 29 at 5 p.m., organizers are prioritizing the safety of everyone involved — from participants and volunteers to the attendees.

In a recent news release, parade organizers revealed their tentative plan to move the event to December 6 at 5 p.m., should the weather necessitate a change. This decision underscores their commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Despite the potential shift in dates, the organizers assure the community that the associated festivities — including Winter Fest and Small Business Saturday — will continue as planned. The spirit of the season remains intact, promising a joyful celebration whenever it takes place.

“We are committed to celebrating our local businesses, the holiday season, and this special annual tradition in a way that is joyful, safe, and community-focused,” said the Executive Director of the Champaign Center Partnership, Jenna Manolakes. “Even if weather impacts the parade itself, Downtown Champaign will still be alive with holiday spirit, shopping, and family-friendly activities this Saturday.”
