CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Del Jacobs joined WCIA 3’s Amanda Brennan in the studio to talk about Champaign’s upcoming Labor Day Parade and a new pantry that aims to help the community.

The parade will kick off at 11 a.m. on Sept. 1 in downtown Champaign.

“It’s nicknamed the candy parade, and we will be throwing lots of candy,” Jacobs said.

And at the end of the parade, the Labor Day Celebration will begin at 12 p.m., located at the Neil Street Plaza. Attendees can expect food, live music, bounce houses and more.

Jacobs said the event is “all compliments” of the AFL-CIO Central Labor Council in Champaign County. Jacobs added that there’s an arm of the labor council called the Council of Labor Union Women, and they’re planning to open a pantry towards the event of the year. They’ll hold the first drive for their pantry during the Labor Day Parade.

“We are requesting period products such as diva cups, and period panties as well as normal period supplies. And we’re also doing a basic hygiene — so, shampoo, laundry detergent, anything that relates to hygiene,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs said to donate, all you have to do is bring your supplies to the Neil Street Plaza after the parade.
