CHARLESTON, Ill. — An unsettling incident unfolded in Charleston that has led to charges against 28-year-old Antwuan D. Harris. The Charleston Police Department reported that Harris was apprehended on Sunday following allegations of domestic violence and assault on a police officer.
According to the police, officers responded to a call on Madison Avenue, where witnesses reported that Harris had assaulted and unlawfully restrained his domestic partner, preventing their escape. The severity of the situation prompted immediate police intervention.
As the officers attempted to take Harris into custody, he reportedly resisted arrest, during which time an officer sustained injuries while trying to secure him in the patrol car. Harris was later transported to the Coles County Jail, where he awaits further legal proceedings.
