Charleston Police Arrest Repeat Offender Found with Illegal Weapon

CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — A local man from Charleston, already entangled in multiple legal battles, found himself in further trouble after authorities discovered him carrying brass knuckles, a weapon prohibited for him as a convicted felon.

The Charleston Police Department reported that 25-year-old Chase Galbreath had previously been legally barred from contacting a specific woman. However, on January 12, officers allegedly observed him in her company. Upon approaching Galbreath, they confirmed the existing no-contact order.

“Galbreath was arrested without any resistance,” stated police officials. “During a subsequent search, officers found brass knuckles on him, violating the law due to his felon status.”

Further information was provided by police regarding a double-stabbing incident in Coles County.

According to Charleston Police, Galbreath was detained for breaching pretrial release terms and unlawful weapon possession as a felon. Nonetheless, Coles County court documents indicate he was formally charged solely with the latter and appeared in court on Tuesday.

In addition, Galbreath is accused of the same crime in another case filed last year. Court records show that case was filed against him in October, just months after he was sentenced to probation in two theft cases and a case of domestic battery. Galbreath was released from custody, serving that probation, when he was accused of possessing a weapon as a felon the first time.

He was granted pretrial release with conditions, and he pleaded not guilty. However, his latest alleged offense resulted in that release being revoked.

Galbreath in due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 22, when he will enter a plea in the new case against him.
