Chatham County judge to serve as president of Council of State Court Judges

ATLANTA () — A Chatham County judge was elected to serve as president of the Council of State Court at their annual meeting in May.

Judge Gregory V. Sapp will serve as president to the council and will represent the State Court Judges on the Judicial Council. The Judicial Council is the governing body of the judicial brand of Georgia.

The Council of State Court Judges of Georgia is made up of almost 200 state court judges and senior judges throughout the state.

“I am humbled and honored that my fellow judges have given me the opportunity to serve them as President of the Council of State Court Judges,” Sapp said. “Relationships are important to me, and we have an incredibly close-knit group of judges in our Council.”

Sapp was appointed to the State Court bench in 2011 by Governor Nathan Deal and has been re-elected four times. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia (UGA), and of the UGA Law School.

Sapp previously served on the board of local positions and organizations including the Savannah Chatham County Board of Education, United Way of the Coastal Empire, Chatham-Savannah Authority for the Homeless and Communities in Schools.

He is also a past president of the Savannah Bar Association and Oglethorpe Charter School.

  • District 7: Mike Jacobs (DeKalb)
  • District 8: Michelle H. Helhoski (Cherokee)
