SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Dr. Cora Thompson has spent her entire life teaching the teachers of tomorrow. Her love of learning has shaped the future of so many of her students and the children they go on to teach. So when Dr. Thompson faced a life-changing situation, she decided to channel that into a children’s book.

A little history: for her birthday one year, a friend gave Dr. Thompson a dog. She named her Angel and Angel became her constant companion. The love Dr. Thompson felt for this furry creature grew every day. Dr. Thompson took Angel with her to work where the staff and students at Savannah State University came to love the sweet pup too. The called Angel “Little Tiger” (after the university’s mascot) and would walk her around the campus. One day, Angel got sick. Dr. Thompson nursed Angel back to health, but it wasn’t meant to be. Angel had cancer and died.

It took Dr. Thompson a long time to move on from Angel’s death. She decided to write a book about all the wonderful times they had together. That book is called “Cora and Angel’s Furr-tastic Adventure.” Writing it not only helped Dr. Thompson deal with Angel’s passing, but it is also a touching reminder of the love and friendship they shared.

With years of experience teaching students to become teachers, the book is also an interactive learning experience. Dr. Thompson filled the pages with fun questions. When someone reads the book to a child, the child feels like they are a part of the adventures by answering those questions. Questions like, “Angel and Cora were both born in April. When were you born?” and “Angel and Cora like to watch movies together. What is your favorite movie?”

Dr. Thompson hopes her book will show young people that pets become family members and the love you share with them will last a lifetime.

“Cora and Angel’s Furr-tastic Adventure” is available on Amazon and on Dr. Thompson’s website.
