LIVIGNO, Italy (AP) — Chloe Kim’s quest to make Olympic history by becoming the first snowboarder to claim three consecutive gold medals came to an unexpected halt as she secured a silver medal in the women’s halfpipe event on Thursday. South Korea’s Choi Gaon emerged victorious, capturing the gold.

The 17-year-old Choi Gaon dazzled with her performance, delivering a stunning final run that earned her an impressive score of 90.25, effectively ending Kim’s reign as the two-time defending champion.

Kim had one more shot to get back on top but she fell on her last of three runs. The 25-year-old American took silver, while Japan’s Mitsuki Ono claimed bronze.
