(NEXSTAR) – Actress and podcast host Christy Carlson Romano told her social media followers on Thursday that her life has “changed profoundly” after she was shot in the face at a shooting range earlier this month.

“It’s been 3 weeks since I got shot in the face and my life has changed profoundly. I am feeling more grateful than I’ve ever felt in my life and I’m healing really well,” Romano wrote on Instagram. “Every day, to me, is a gift. I used to be so closed off about sharing the things in my life I loved out of fear of being judged. Now I just don’t care.”

Romano, 40, was celebrating her husband’s birthday at a shooting range for clay pigeons on Feb. 7, 2015, when a member of another party “unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face,” she revealed earlier this month.

Romano’s husband took her to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in Austin, Texas, where doctors worked to clean out the wounds, she said.

“I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye,” she wrote. She later added that this particular fragment was only “1mm from permanently blinding me.”

In the weeks since, Romano has been posting updates on her healing process. She said her doctors ultimately decided not to remove the fragment from her eye, as it could hinder her recovery. They will also not remove a piece that got lodged “deep” in her forehead, she said.

In her latest update on Thursday, Romano suggested that surviving the accident has changed her perspective — at least when it comes to what she shares about her everyday life with followers. She now feels more free, she said, to post content about her “hobbies, passions, comedy, family” and “just stuff that I care about.”

“If it brings me joy and it’s not hurting anyone, I’m doing it.”

Romano, is best known for starring in “Even Stevens,” voicing the title character of “Kim Possible,” and most recently for being a contestant on “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.” She has also hosted several podcasts.
