SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The City of Savannah announced Thursday that water customers will receive a notification this week about a Notice of Violation (NOV) issued.

The NOV is being issued by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) after an incident at the Industrial & Domestic (I&D) Water Treatment Plant (WTP) involving elevated cloudiness level in the water that occurred on the night between May 15-16.

The City of Savannah reported that they took proper corrective action and normal operating conditions were back by May 16.

City staff has tested 71 water samples after the issue took place and there was no evidence of contamination in the drinking water distribution system.

Customers are not required to take any action and city water is safe to drink.

Residents who wish to learn more may contact the city of Savannah’s Office of Water Resources at 912-651-6573.
