Clemson road rage leads to arrest for attempted murder

In Clemson, South Carolina, a motorist found himself under fire after sounding his horn at another driver who abruptly cut him off in traffic. The incident unfolded on a typical Wednesday morning at approximately 11:45 a.m. along US 76.

While heading north, the driver encountered a gray sedan that suddenly swerved into his path. In response, he honked his horn, prompting the sedan to halt in the median. The situation escalated when both vehicles came to a stop at a red light on Old Stone Church Road, where the sedan’s driver opened fire from behind, as reported by Clemson police. The shooter quickly fled the scene afterward.

Fortunately, the targeted driver escaped without injury and managed to note the sedan’s license plate and description before contacting the authorities. The suspect was apprehended just 15 minutes later by Anderson County deputies on SC 187 near Interstate 85.

Charles Douglas Mace, Jr., aged 28, was subsequently arrested. He faces serious charges, including attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and illegal possession of a machine gun.

Deputies found an AR-15 style rifle and a handgun, which had been illegally modified into a machine gun, in Mace’s vehicle, according to police.
