CLINTON, Ill. (WCIA) — The Clinton Fire Department credits a family’s emergency readiness and swift action for their quick escape after a smoke detector alerted them to danger early Sunday morning.

At around 3 a.m., the piercing sound of a smoke detector in their 8-year-old child’s room jolted a couple awake. Acting promptly, they rescued their child and guided the entire family outdoors to safety.
