KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Brady Stump started Underrated Clothing in his basement four years ago and now his merchandise is being displayed on the collegiate basketball court.
Stump said his clothing line has been established by working hard, learning lessons and remembering that “everyone holds equal value under Jesus Christ.”
“It’s been a constant grind ever since high school,” he said. “It’s been about four years now of consistency and reaching out to new manufacturers. And I actually found a trusted manufacturer and I’ve stuck with them ever since. So I’m just learning, growing, stuff like that.”
One of Stump’s designs was worn by Johni Broome, Auburn Tigers forward, during Auburn’s game against Mississippi State last week. Ironically, this is when Stump was beginning to wonder if his clothing line had run its course.
“And it was just crazy because I remember praying, asking God, if you know, this is the right direction, you know, this is what I’m meant to be doing for his name,” he said. “And a week later, Mikey Williams was actually on Angel Reese’s podcast and he was wearing my hoodie. And it was just so magical, you know, just to see a guy like Mikey Williams (UCF Knights) wearing my brand and, you know, being on that platform, you know, sharing his gospel and wearing my hoodie.”
Seeing the Division I players wear his design eliminated Stump’s doubts and reminded him that just because he is not on the court, it doesn’t mean his dreams aren’t on the sidelines.
“It’s just it’s just a blessing,” Stump said. “Growing up, I’ve always wanted to play college sports, but, you know, God got me in there another way, and I’m very thankful for that. So just to be able to see it on television, I’m just so thankful for that.”
