TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Several cold weather shelters are opening around Hillsborough County on Saturday, amid a weekend of chilly weather.
Temperatures on Saturday night are expected to drop into the lower 40s.
The shelters, listed below, will take in residents until they reach full capacity:
- Church of God of Prophecy Hyde Park: 107 South Oregon Avenue in Tampa
- Hyde Park United Methodist Church at The Portico: 1001 North Florida Avenue in Tampa
- Tampa Bay Mission of Hope: 212 South St. Cloud Avenue, Building A, in Valrico
- Amazing Love Ministries: 3304 East Columbus Drive in Tampa
All shelters will be open for guests from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, for the homeless and those who are in homes without adequate heat and cannot find alternate accommodations.
“Shelter organizers are expecting high demand with limited capacity, so residents who need a warm place to stay are encouraged to use all resources like friends and family as a first option,” the county said.
Hillsborough County said all congregate shelters are only for adults.
Additionally, Metropolitan Ministries is offering a limited number of single-night motel vouchers on a first-come, first-serve basis for families with children. Pre-registration for the vouchers is required and can be obtained by calling 813-209-1176 until 5 p.m.
