In a significant shift of opinion, the Coles County Board has reversed its earlier decision and now granted approval for the Glacier Moraine solar energy facility. This change of heart comes just a month after the board initially rejected the proposal, demonstrating a willingness to adapt and reconsider critical local projects.
Originally, on September 9, the board narrowly voted against the special use permit for the Glacier Moraine project, with a 7-5 vote. However, the tides turned on October 14 when the board reconvened and voted 7-4 in favor, with one member abstaining. Darrell Cox, the board chairman, suggested that additional information provided about the project played a pivotal role in influencing the board members’ decision.
Earthrise Energy, the company behind the project, expressed their enthusiasm for the board’s newfound support. In a statement to WCIA, the spokesperson conveyed their eagerness to commence work on the solar facility, highlighting the project’s significance beyond mere energy production.
