Urbana brewery teams up with Danville Dashers

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Beer and ice don’t typically go together… But a Central Illinois brewery and hockey team want to change that.

Riggs Beer Company is teaming up with the Danville Dashers for a new can of beer. The Brewery’s vice president Darin Riggs said this is made possible by new can making technology.

Before, he had to order a semi-truck load of cans from a manufacturer. Now they’re able to print directly onto the can — which makes smaller orders possible.

“Instead of being a stick-on label, this is actually printed on the cans, so it’s recyclable,” Riggs said. “A lot of people don’t know those labels that get stuck on the can. Those kind of mess up the aluminum recycling process. So, as part of our sustainability efforts here at Riggs Beer Company, we wanted to get away from those canned labels as well.”

Riggs said this is the first time they’ve canned their signature IPL. He also said he is looking forward to new partnership opportunities in the future.
