(NEXSTAR) – Famed author Colleen Hoover, whose works have soared in popularity thanks to both social media buzz and film adaptations, recently disclosed her cancer diagnosis.

“Second to last day of radiation!” she shared in an Instagram story on Monday, offering a glimpse into her ongoing treatment journey.

While Hoover has kept most details of her health private, she did mention on Facebook last week that genetic testing revealed her cancer wasn’t inherited.

“It also didn’t originate from the two primary cancer causes, HPV or excessive hormones,” she clarified. “This suggests it’s largely due to environmental or lifestyle factors, like lack of exercise, an unhealthy diet, and stress.”

In a candid note to her audience, Hoover humorously added, “If you spot me at a restaurant begrudgingly eating grilled chicken and sipping water, it’s safe to say I’m not thrilled.” She also shared her distaste for vegetables, sweating, and the necessity of leaving her couch, concluding with a playful nod to science’s accuracy.

“If you see me at the gym, don’t even tell me good job.”

Hoover, a best-selling author, has written more than two dozen novels. Two, “It Ends With Us” and “Regretting You,” have been adapted for film. The cast of the former quickly became the center of controversy in 2024 when Blake Lively accused director and co-star Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment on the set of the movie and a subsequent effort to “destroy” her reputation in a legal complaint.

Baldoni countersued Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, accusing them of defamation and extortion. His claims were dismissed in June 2025. A March 2026 trial date was set for Lively’s suit.

The next Hoover adaptation, “Reminders of Him,” will be released in theaters on March 13. The film adaptation of “Verity” is set to be released in October.

In September, Hoover announced her newest book, “Woman Down.” The thriller was released on Tuesday.

“It has been way too long!” Hoover wrote on Instagram on Monday, announcing the release.
