SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Thanks to a community initiative held on Friday, hundreds of local students are stepping into the new school year better equipped with brand-new supplies.
Families convened on Abercorn Street for a no-cost back-to-school celebration, where backpacks packed with school essentials were distributed to the first 300 children who attended.
In addition to stocking up on school gear, children enjoyed the chance to unwind before the academic year began, with activities such as a bounce house, inflatable obstacle courses, face painting, games, music, and a lively foam party.
The event was organized by KidsStreet Urgent Care as a means to support local families in getting ready for the coming school term.
“We’re providing a plethora of school supplies and backpacks to students whose parents might not have the opportunity to shop for these extras before school starts,” explained Kara Lightner from KidsStreet Urgent Care. “Offering this opportunity while creating a fun atmosphere allows everyone to enjoy the back-to-school excitement,” she added.
